Nontenure Faculty Accomplishments in 2013
 Beth Biggan has taken a total of 45 undergraduate nursing students since 2011 to Nicaragua for 2 weeks during the winter breaks for medical mission trips and cultural immersion. Biggan is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing. |
| Brenda Boucher recently presented a full day course titled "Management of Upper Extremity Injuries-An Evidence-based Approach" at the Texas Physical Therapy Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX. Her poster, "Flipping" Texas State University's Entry-level Physical Therapist Musculoskeletal Curriculum" was presented at the same conference. The International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy recently published a paper titled "Preparticipation Screening - The Sports Physical Therapist Perspective" in which Boucher was a collaborative author. Finally, Boucher recently completed training and received certification as a "True Colors" trainer. Boucher is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. |
Shawn Boyd was one of the recipients of the 2013 College of Health Professions Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching. This award recognizes outstanding faculty in the areas of Teaching, Research, and Service. Both students and faculty may nominate a faculty member for the Teaching category of this award. Boyd is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing.
 Rachel Davenport began the year-long Sloan Consortium Certificate Program to become certified as an online instructor by the internationally recognized Sloan-C Institute. She attended multiple workshops and seminars in 2013, including the two-day "Preparing Students for Socially Responsible Global Citizenship" workshop and the two-week "Technology Integration Workshop." She was also voted “Best Professor at Texas State University” in 2013 by Study Break magazine readers. Davenport is a senior lecturer in the Department of Biology. |
 Diane Dolezel was co-investigator on a Texas State Research Enhancement Program grant for Implementing EHRs: An Exploratory Study to Examine Current Practices in Migrating Longitudinal Clinical Data, and co-presented on this topic at the 2013 AHIMA National Convention. She co-authored a Chapter on Information Infrastructure for the textbook Introduction to Healthcare Informatics, an AHIMA publication, published summer 2013. She has also presented scholarly works at the state and national levels. She is currently working on her EdD in Instructional Leadership. Dolezel is a senior lecturer in the Health Information Management Department. |
 Chris Dorsey, Ph.D. is conducting research in collaboration with Dr. Todd Hudnall focusing on stabilization of unusual main group allotropes and other low valent main group species using carbonyl-decorated carbenes. This research has produced two high impact papers in the past year, “Isolation of a Neutral P8 Cluster via [2+2] Cycloaddition of a Diphosphene Facilitated by Carbene Activation of White Phosphorus” and “Phosphaalkene vs. Phosphinidene: The Nature of the P–C Bond in Carbonyl-Decorated Carbene→PPh Adducts.” The research was featured on the inside front cover of Angewandte Chemie International Edition and the back cover of Chemical Communications respectively. Additionally, the success of this work has led to a three year grant from the National Science Foundation being funded for Dr. Hudnall. Dorsey is a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and specializes in teaching organic chemistry. |
 Diane Eure, along with Kathy Moffitt and Lu Montondon, published “Cheating—Beyond the Cheat Sheet” in a double issue of New Accountant. She served as the Managerial Accounting session moderator at the Texas Society of CPA’s Accounting Educators Conference and completed an externship with Mensor Corporation. She was the 2013 McCoy College of Business Dean’s nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Service. Eure is a senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting. |
| Jennifer Hale's manuscript titled, An Advanced Ground Reaction Design Ankle Foot Orthosis to Improve Gait and Balance in Individuals with Post-stroke Hemiparesis: A Case Series was accepted and published in the January 2013 issue of The Journal of Orthotics and Prosthetics (JPO). Jennifer presented on this topic at the Orthotics & Prosthetics World Congress Meeting, held in Orlando, FL in September of 2013. Hale, PT, DPT, NCS is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. |
 Regina Jillapalli was the recipient of the 2013 “Outstanding Faculty in Teaching” award, a Nursing student-voted annual recognition. This is the second year in which Ms. Jillapalli received this award. Jillapalli is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing. |
 Alisha Johnson was the recipient of the 2013 “Outstanding Clinical Instructor” award, a Nursing student-voted annual recognition. This is the second year in which Ms. Johnson received this award. Johnson is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing |
 Marylyn Kajs-Wyllie presented a CNRN Review Course at the Regional Medical Center in San Jose, California on February 7-8, 2013. She also presented “Nursing Assessment and Care of the Stroke Patient in the Emergency Department and Acute Care Phase” at the State of Texas Stroke Support Symposium in Houston, Texas on January 18, 2013. As a State Stroke surveyor, Ms. Kajs-Wyllie shared information to assist small community hospitals in the development of a stroke support center. Ms. Kajs-Wyllie had two podium abstracts accepted at the Annual Educational Conference of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses in Charlotte, North Carolina, March 9-12, 2013. Kajs-Wyllie is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing. |
 Monica Malorgio McNabb was recognized with the Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Spring 2013 semester. She was a Visiting Entrepreneur for Studies in Entrepreneurship, served as a Mentor for Beta Alpha Psi and guest lectured for FMA. Her real estate company was awarded the Emerging Business of the Year for 2013 by the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce and she also was acknowledged as a Shining Star Under 40. McNabb is currently a lecturer in the Department of Finance and Economics. |
 Kathy Moffitt, along with Diane Eure and Lu Montondon, published “Cheating—Beyond the Cheat Sheet” in a double issue of New Accountant. She was also a McCoy College of Business Administration Runner Up for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching. Moffitt is a lecturer in the Department of Accounting and teaches Intermediate Accounting. |
 Jennifer Teal served as President, Alamo Area Health Information Management Association, January-December 2013. She obtained Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), March 2013. In 2013 Ms. Teal served as a member of the AHIMA Community workgroup of the Council for Excellence in Education and currently serves on the Faculty Development workgroup of the Council for Excellence in Education. Teal is a lecturer in the Health Information Management Department.

Renee Wendel was a 2013 recipient of the ASHA Award for Continuing Education - The ACE is a formal recognition of professionals who have demonstrated their commitment to lifelong learning by earning 7.0 ASHA CEUs (70 contact hours) within a 36-month period. She was also an invited presenter at both the Southeast University Clinical Educators Annual Conference in Panama City, FL and The 2nd Annual Education Service Center Region 15 Autism Conference in San Angelo, TX. Wendel is a clinic director in the Department of Communication Disorders. |
 Rhonda Winegar collaborated with fellow Nursing faculty, Dr. Susan Rick, Associate Professor and Alisha Johnson, Clinical Assistant Professor, to do research on bed bugs. “Bed Bugs: A Call to Action” is the fruit of their efforts, published by The Journal for Nurse Practitioners. Their article and research provide a history of bed bug infestations, how these bites can be identified, treated and contained, as well as how Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs) can play a role in bite identification and educating the public. Winegar is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing. |
